Entablature XA (C.148) presents the same composition as Entablature X — JVSTITIA inscribed across the architectural ornament of a classical civic façade — in an alternative colour state, the chromatic relationships shifted while the conceptual content remained unchanged.
Lichtenstein had used the state format across multiple series — most extensively in the Haystack and Cathedral prints — to show that colour was an independent variable capable of transforming the character of a fixed composition. Entablature XA (C.148) made this demonstration at the point of maximum conceptual weight: the same picture, the same inscription, the same question about power and ornament, in a different chromatic key.
