Petite Tête de Femme Couronnée is a colour linocut executed by Pablo Picasso in 1962, hand signed in pencil, and belongs to the celebrated series of large-format colour linocuts produced at Vallauris in collaboration with master printer Hidalgo Arnéra — the body of work widely regarded as the culmination of Picasso's output in his final decade.

Petite Tête de Femme Couronnée lays out a female head wearing a crown of flowers, the face rendered in the Cubist double-view that characterises so many of the linocuts of this period — one half of the face in a warm dark brown, the other in a cooler ochre, the two tonal planes divided by the central axis of the nose and meeting across a single pair of eyes that looks outward with directness and calm. The hair, rendered in deep teal-green, falls in broad curling masses on either side of the face, framing the image and anchoring the warm sandy ground. The floral crown — small blossoms worked in brown and ochre along the hairline — gives the figure a pastoral, almost votive quality, connecting the image to a tradition of garlanded female heads stretching from antiquity through the Renaissance.

The palette is characteristically assured for this period of Picasso's linocut work — warm earth tones, deep greens and the natural buff of the ground held together by the strong black line of the cut. The reductive linocut method, in which successive colours are printed from a single progressively cut block, demands that each colour be planned in advance and committed to irrevocably — a constraint that Picasso turned to expressive advantage throughout the series, the technical discipline producing images of unusual chromatic concentration and formal clarity.
Petite Tête de Femme Couronnée is among the more intimate works of the 1962 linocut sequence — smaller in scale than some of its companions but no less resolved, a portrait of quiet authority in one of the most demanding printmaking techniques of the twentieth century.
