Pop Shop Quad V (Littmann P. 143) by Keith Haring forms part of the artist’s celebrated Pop Shop series and is rooted in the democratic philosophy that shaped the project itself.

Opened in SoHo in 1986, the Pop Shop became central to Haring’s belief that art should go beyond galleries and museums and be accessible to all. Structured through four snapshots in one panel, Pop Shop Quad V shows Haring’s sophisticated understanding of sequential imagery and visual rhythm.

The imagery in the work centres on playful human encounters with dolphin-like creatures. Across the quad, the human and dolphin figures playfully interact making the work one of Haring’s most humorous. Throughout Pop Shop Quad V, Haring reduces the imagery to its most essential elements while preserving a strong emotional immediacy. The recurring wave patterns, radiant motion lines and flattened spatial construction create a continuous sense of flow across the four panels.
