Keith Haring
Various (From 42 x 46 to 42 x 79 in)
The Blueprint Drawings Complete Set (Littmann PP. 172–183) by Keith Haring comprises of seventeen screenprints bringing together one of the artist’s most focused and conceptually unified late print series.
The series draws upon the architectural blueprints, technical manuals, comic strips, and instructional diagrams, using compartmentalised panels, stippled backgrounds, and precise linear structures to organise scenes of movement, conflict, celebration, collapse, and transformation.
The works unfold through sequential narratives, whilst others isolate a single motif within sparse, almost architectural space. The Blueprint Drawings occupy a distinctive position within Haring’s oeuvre.
Rather than introducing entirely new imagery, the series revisits earlier ideas and symbols that had appeared throughout his subway drawings and public works during the early and mid-1980s.
Here, however, those motifs are stripped back and reconsidered with greater restraint and clarity. The monochromatic format places increased emphasis on line, rhythm, repetition, and spatial tension, allowing the underlying structure of Haring’s imagery to emerge with unusual precision.
Produced during the final year of the artist’s life, the series carries an unmistakable sense of reflection without losing the immediacy and accessibility that defined Haring’s practice. Themes of vulnerability, power, violence, spirituality, human connection, and collective behaviour recur throughout the seventeen works, often expressed through deceptively simple forms and compressed visual narratives.
Across the seventeen works, Haring reduces his imagery to its essential forms whilst expanding its emotional and symbolic range, creating a body of work that functions simultaneously as visual archive, narrative experiment, and late-career reconsideration of the themes that shaped his practice from the beginning.
