Keith Haring
20 x 26 in
Bad Boys 6 (Littmann P. 59) by Keith Haring compresses a crowd of nude male figures into a single tightly packed field, bodies overlapping until individual outlines blur into a collective mass.
Where the radiant baby or the barking dog work as single, isolated glyphs, the Bad Boys series builds its meaning through accumulation — proximity standing in for intimacy, the crush of bodies reading as community rather than chaos. The series has been compared to Courbet's L'Origine du Monde for its directness about the body, though Haring's version trades flesh for geometry, reducing the figure to interlocking curves rather than rendering it. As the closing plate in the set, Bad Boys 6 pushes that compression further than any of its five companions, with almost no negative space left for the eye to rest.
