Keith Haring

Andy Mouse 4 (Littmann P. 65) by Keith Haring presents a vibrant fusion of Disney iconography and Pop Art commentary and inspired by the artist’s friendship with Andy Warhol and early, childhood love of cartoons.
Created in 1986, the work shows a green-skinned figure with Mickey Mouse ears and blue hair, wearing yellow-rimmed sunglasses and sporting a dollar sign on his chest, set against a bold orange background that fills the square format.
The piece belongs to Haring's Andy Mouse series, developed during his close friendship with Andy Warhol in the mid-1980s. Andy Mouse 4 shows the hybrid character with hands on hips in a confident stance, the mouse tail curving playfully to the right while oversized yellow shoes ground the work. The dollar symbol prominently displayed on the figure's torso makes explicit the work's engagement with themes of commercialisation and celebrity culture that preoccupied both artists during this period. Haring's colour palette here—acidic greens against hot orange, punctuated by primary reds and yellows—reflects both advertising and comic books.
The Andy Mouse series emerged from Haring's recognition of the parallels between Warhol's artistic celebrity and Walt Disney's commercial empire. Both figures had created powerful brands that blurred the boundaries between high and low culture, art and commerce.
