Chocolate Buddha 5 (Littmann P. 125) by Keith Haring employs a more restrained palette of rust-red and turquoise, creating a quieter and more meditative atmosphere than his earlier works.

The image unfolds as a dense network of interlocking figures and looping forms that extend continuously across the surface. Haring reduces the body to its essential contours, allowing limbs, torsos and gestures to merge into an uninterrupted rhythmic structure. The turquoise background is animated through repeated marks and hatching, creating a textured visual field that activates the surface without disrupting the balance of the work.

Produced during the final year of Haring’s career, the Chocolate Buddha works reflect his growing engagement with spiritual and symbolic imagery. Rather than functioning as direct religious references, these works operate through rhythm, symmetry and visual continuity, encouraging a slower and more sustained mode of viewing.
