Keith Haring

Blueprint Drawing 8 (Littmann P. 179) by Keith Haring stages a dramatic confrontation between monumental geometry and extraterrestrial imagery, combining one of Haring’s largest pyramid forms with a hovering flying saucer and a crowd of animated figures below.
Produced in 1990 as a screenprint, the work merges references to ancient civilisation, mass spectacle and science-fiction fantasy within a stark monochrome work. A towering black pyramid occupies much of the image, its heavy triangular mass dominating the surface with an almost oppressive stillness.
The combination of pyramids and UFO imagery also taps into the fascination with conspiracy culture, ancient mysteries and cosmic mythology that circulated widely through popular media during the late twentieth century. Rather than presenting these references ironically, Haring folds them directly into his broader universe, allowing science-fiction motifs to coexist naturally beside his recurring dancing figures and radiating marks.
Blueprint Drawing 8 reveals Haring experimenting with scale and symbolic contrast in a particularly concentrated way. Through the collision of monumental form, crowded figuration and extraterrestrial imagery, the print constructs an atmosphere suspended between ritual gathering, apocalyptic vision and pop-cultural hallucination.
