Jean-Michel Basquiat Daros Suite Prints For Sale |

The Daros Suite prints, Leeches, Ascent, Olympic and Liberty, are four drawings pulled from a much larger group Jean-Michel Basquiat made in 1982 and 1983, thirty-two works on paper now housed together at the Daros Collection in Zurich, which is where the series takes its name. Not every drawing from that original group of thirty-two has surfaced as a print at the same time. King Brand, for instance, comes from that same body of work but was released separately by the estate in a different portfolio years later, and the two groups share more than just an origin: the same pests that crawl through Leeches turn up again in Wolf Sausage, and Olympic's reference to Walt Disney sits directly beneath an image of the Big Bad Wolf from that other print, suggesting Basquiat was working across these thirty-two sheets as a connected body of imagery rather than thirty-two isolated ideas.

Olympic carries the clearest historical weight of the four, built around the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where Jesse Owens set world records competing in front of Adolf Hitler and a regime built on white supremacy. Swastikas sit alongside labelled diagrams of the athlete's body, an image of Black excellence staged directly against the politics trying hardest to deny it, the same territory Basquiat returned to a year later in Hollywood Africans. Basquiat's signature three-pointed crown, so central to so much of his other work, appears only once across this entire group of four, twice within Olympic itself, positioned above a Superman logo near a sports car and a bar of soap. Ascent moves into different territory entirely, an angelic figure rising through imagery of resurrection and collapse, name-checking the real philosophers Eckartshausen and Plotinus and building a tension between spiritual transcendence and destruction that Leeches approaches from the opposite direction, parasites and anatomical diagrams standing in for something closer to civilisation under threat from forces it can't fully control.

    Basquiat Daros Suite

    A Market Overview

The Daros Suite draws from one of the most significant private collections of post-war art in Europe. Four works — Leeches, Ascent, Olympic and Liberty — were selected from an original group of thirty-two drawings housed in the Daros Collection in Zürich and published by the Basquiat estate in 2017 in an edition of 50. The drawings themselves date from 1982, placing them within Basquiat's most commercially and critically significant period — the same year as the Anatomy series and the paintings that have since set world records at auction.

Across 46 auction appearances, individual works have traded between £15,000 and £105,901, with a peak result of £130,000 including buyer's premium at Sotheby's New York in April 2025. Annual price growth across the group sits at 6.93% — one of the strongest trajectories in the estate print programme — and demand has held firm through successive market cycles. For collectors building a position in Basquiat's print catalogue, the Daros Suite combines the depth of the 1982 source material with the sustained secondary market performance that distinguishes the most sought-after estate editions.

    The Basquiat Market in 2026

    An Overview

Jean-Michel Basquiat is among the most valuable artists ever to appear at auction. His imagery — crowns, anatomical figures, layered text, the collision of street culture and art history — has become part of the visual language of the last forty years, recognised and sought by collectors across generations and geographies. Demand has remained consistent and has reached the highest levels of the market: his 1982 Untitled sold for $110.5 million at Sotheby's New York in May 2017, at the time a world record for an American artist, and In This Case (1983) achieved $93.1 million at Christie's New York in May 2021, with multiple other paintings crossing the $50 million threshold in recent seasons.

His print catalogue divides into two distinct categories. Lifetime works — produced and signed by the artist during his career — carry direct studio provenance; the Anatomy series of 1982, printed in an edition of eighteen, has recorded average annual price growth of 9.67% across 38 auction appearances. Estate editions, published since 2001 and authenticated by the artist's sisters, vary in size and scope across each release. Individual works have traded at auction between £15,000 and over £135,000 depending on series and imagery. Recent results confirm the depth and breadth of demand: the Daros Suite peaked at £130,000 at Sotheby's New York in April 2025; a complete Anatomy set achieved £570,000 at Christie's in May 2026; and Printer's Proof examples from the Superhero Portfolio — released only in 2022 — were estimated at $150,000–$250,000 at Sotheby's in April 2025, confirming that even recent estate additions attract serious collector attention from the outset.

The continuity of demand, the strength of the imagery and the depth of the market across every tier of his catalogue make Basquiat one of the most serious acquisitions a collector can make today.
